What makes me happy?

by Michelle on February 11, 2011

I thought that since I asked the question “What makes you happy?” I might as well answer it too. While there are many things that make me happy there are a few things that always make me happy.

Running

Running ALWAYS makes me happy. It is something that I can rely on for physical fitness, stress reduction and good friends. It’s tough to believe that I have been running consistently for four years! Through those years I have built so many important friendships and ran out SOOO many stresses. I even met one of the most important people in my life running! Running is worth every second spent doing it even if it doesn’t always feel good at the time.

Reading

There is nothing like reading a good book at the end of the day. I almost always read before bed and love it so much! I read a variety of books that are mostly fiction. I just started the book “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin. So far it seems just what I need: a boost and reminder that there are so many things in life that can make us happy and that in the end you never have to feel stuck in a tough mood. She also makes it clear that not being happy is very different from being depressed- a very important point as in the case of depression I truly feel that it is complicated and beyond simply doing things that make us happy.

I will continue to add and expand on this list as time permits. Stay tuned!

Quick post with a quote!

by Michelle on January 27, 2011

I have to admit I’ve been feeling pretty down lately. Lots of pressure to make decisions for the future and such. I’m trying my best to take it one day at a time but sometimes it’s tough. Here is a quote that I thought was appropriate for how I have been feeling lately and hopefully will motivate me today to feel better!

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

- Groucho Marx

The year 2010 is behind us and so much has happened! While I usually don’t have resolutions I think it’s good to reflect on the previous year as well as goals for the current year. When I think back to 2010 a few key (and not so surprising!) events come to mind. We started 2010 [...]
